A tractor-trailer hauling peat moss crashed on Hwy. 401 early on the morning of Thursday, Aug. 28, spilling its load onto the eastbound and westbound express lanes.

Ontario Provincial Police said the tractor-trailer, travelling in the westbound express lane, hit the cement guardrail and wrapped around a light standard near Port Union Road around 2:20 a.m.

The driver was not hurt in the crash.

The eastbound and westbound express lanes were closed throughout the morning rush hour for the investigation and cleanup.

Police reopened the eastbound lanes at 9:18 a.m.; the westbound lanes were cleared two hours later.
