An East York baseball pitcher won an award recently recognizing his skill in the sport.

Jeff Gibbs won the A. J. Award of Excellence at a ceremony held at the Rogers Centre by Toronto Blue Jays pitcher A. J. Burnett himself.

Gibbs, who is enrolled in the Birchmount Exceptional Athletes Program at Birchmount Park Collegiate, plays on the East York Midget Bulldogs in the Toronto Baseball Association.

He received the award for being the best player in his age division - midget, 18 and under.

Gibbs started in the baseball at Stan Wadlow Park in the East York Baseball Association as a T-Ball player when he was six-years-old.

He also plays in the New York state based Boys of Summer Baseball League on the Toronto Cardinals. The Cardinals are an elite travel team based out of Stan Wadlow Park in East York.
