A Scarborough soccer team put on their Portugal jerseys and took top spot at the Little World Cup tournament for under-12-year-olds held from May 31 to June 1.
The Central Soccer League hosted the event at Esther Shiner Stadium with 16 teams, each representing a competing country.
The North Scarborough Soccer Club (NSSC) Release representing Portugal beat out the Woodbridge Strikers representing Costa Rica in the final game.
"I'm very proud of the commitment and dedication of the players and their accomplishments as a team in this tournament," said coach Isaac Henry. "My major goal is to continue to teach the game of soccer the way it should be played."
The Little World Cup is the second major tournament the NSSC Release has competed in. On May 3 the team place third in the Niagara Regional Soccer tournament.
