BRIEFS

Lynx teams at Varsity Stadium

This Sunday's W-League Soccer game at Varsity Stadium at 4 p.m. between the host Toronto Lady Lynx and the Ottawa Fury promises to be a good one.

That's because the Lady Lynx went into the nation's capital last Sunday to secure their first ever win over Ottawa, 2-1, breaking Ottawa's string of undefeated regular season games at 21.

Brittany Bisnott and Stefania Morra scored for Toronto while Shay Powell scored for Ottawa.

The W-League is the top women's soccer league in North America with 41 teams throughout Canada and the United States.

The Lady Lynx are playing the bulk of their home schedule out of Varsity Stadium.

LYNX MEN

The Toronto Lynx men's team, which plays in the United Soccer League's Premier Development League, also plays the bulk of their home games out of Varsity Stadium.

They sport a 4-2-2 record and do not play next in Toronto until closing out the season at Varsity Stadium July 16 and July 20 against Cincinnati and Michigan, respectively.

Razik wins final at squash circuit

Local resident Shahier Razik won the finals at the Canadian Squash Circuit Grande Finales at The Club at White Oaks in Niagara-on-the-Lake on Wednesday, April 30.

Razik is Canada's number-one player and ranked 21st in the world.

But his final match didn't come easy, edging Shawn DeLierre of Montreal 2-1 (5-11, 11-4, 12-10).

The added struggle was that Razik was off for most of March with a leg injury.

"I didn't expect a close match initially but five minutes in I knew I was in for a long one. Shawn played really well," Razik said. "I wasn't really happy with how I played but every time I play a match right now I feel more and more confident. I feel the leg right now is at about 98 per cent."

The national championships continue until Sunday.

Central Commerce boys team back from OFSAA with bronze medal

The Central Commerce triple-A boys basketball team won bronze at OFSAA on March 6.

The team played against Oakridge Secondary School from London, Ontario, and won with a final score of 59-53.

Top scorers for Central Commerce were Darnell Walters with 21 points and Gamachu Ibrahim with 16.

The OFSAA championship game was held in Paris, Ontario.
