Police patrols have been heightened in the riding of Parkdale-High Park after 25 acts of vandalism and graffiti against Liberal supporters with lawn signs occurred over the weekend. according to 11 Division Staff Sgt. Philip VanAndel.

Police are encouraging the community to be watchful, to report any suspicious individual or act, VanAndel said.

“Brake lines have been cut, graffiti spray-painted on front (doors) or garage doors. There’s been a couple incidences of telephone lines cut,” he said.

The investigation is underway.

At this point, police won’t speculate as to who might be the culprit.

Jason Easton, campaign manager for Gerard Kennedy, the Liberal candidate in Parkdale-High Park, said it seems it is someone “looking to disrupt the election process,” but also added that it could be another intention altogether - “One we’re not aware of. We don’t know why we’re being targeted.”

“Almost everybody who had vandalism perpetrated against them called our office,” Easton said.

Kennedy called these acts “deeply disturbing” and asked that residents take extra precautions to ensure their personal safety.

Parkdale-High Park was not the only riding to fall victim to the vandals’ acts this weekend. Similar incidents were reported Saturday in St. Paul’s.
