Police are appealing for information in the weekend shooting death of a popular Etobicoke teen.

Boris Cikovic was with a group of friends when he was shot in the abdomen in Buttonwood Park near Eglinton Avenue and Royal York Road at 10:40 p.m. Friday. The 17-year-old, who was reportedly armed with a stun gun, was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead.

"The guy who shot him, with one bullet he killed actually three persons," family friend Caba Juhas said of his grieving parents. "I mean what's the sense of life when you lose your only child?"

Cikovic, a Grade 12 student at Scarlett Heights Entrepreneurial Academy, came to Canada with his parents from war-torn Sarajevo 14 years ago.

"He was very, very popular," said Juhas. "He was like an idol to everyone. He was always smiling. He always had a happy face, always making jokes, always making fun. He was making everybody around him happy."

Cikovic was also an all-star player for the Weston Lions minor hockey team. "His room is full of trophies and medals ... He scored (in) one game seven goals," Juhas said.

On Sunday, more than 200 people gathered at the shooting scene for a candle-light vigil.

Cikovic is the city's 53rd murder victim of 2008.

Police have yet to release a description of the suspect or suspects.

Anyone with information is asked to call the homicide squad at 416-808-7400 or Crime Stoppers at 416-222-TIPS (8477).
