Sell park, use money to benefit entire community

Re. 'Tiny city parkette may get huge financial upgrade,' News, Nov. 7

The idea of spending $300,000 on Grattan Park is another example of poor money management and poor planning by city councillors. Grattan Park is within walking distance of two large and far more popular parks. Residents have asked for a skating rink, splash pad, updated tennis courts and the return of local summer kids' programs.

Use some of the money to build a privacy fence around the park and revitalize the former Grattan Park kids' summer program which once operated from the park. Or, if the community supports it, local residents living next to the park should be allowed the opportunity to purchase the land to add to their lots. Combining the money earned from the sale of the park and the $300,000 would be of far greater benefit to the community and provide residents with local facilities they actually want and will use.
