ETOBICOKE: Mixed martial arts competitors bring home medals
Xtreme Couture Toronto instructor Misha Cirkunov won the gold medal at the Pan Am Jiu-Jitsu championships in the Black Belt SuperHeavyweight division held in New York recently. The Etobicoke mixed martial arts gym members have won various awards at a competition held Nov. 9 in Hamilton.

Xtreme Couture Toronto has left its mark at various competitions recently.

Last weekend Jiu-Jitsu instructor Mark Bocek, who works at the mixed martial arts gym at 700 Keele St. won his UFC91 fight in Las Vegas.

Head instructor Misha Cirkunov, recently won the gold medal in the black belt super heavyweight division at the Pan Am Jiu-Jitsu championships in New York to become the first ever Canadian to win a black belt division at the tournament.

Some students also fared well at Joslin's Canadian Open Jiu-Jitsu championships held in Hamilton Nov. 9. It is the largest jiu-jitsu and grappling tournament in Canada.

Mike Imperato first place beginner under 140 lbs

Darson Hemmings third place beginner under 140 lbs

Jason Woshinski first place beginner under 155 lbs

Alesandro Roman second place beginner under 155 lbs

Mathew Pallotta first place beginner under 185 lbs

Albert Cheng second place advanced under 170 lbs

Steve Sims first place advanced under 205 lbs

Peter Nolan first place advanced under 225 lbs

Brock Millar third place advanced over 225 lbs
