Classes will resume Monday for international students currently attending York University who must return to their respective home countries in the new year.

While the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) Local 3903 – representing 3,300 contract faculty, teaching assistants and graduate assistants – is still on strike, the administration decided to start classes again for the 99 students from partner universities who wouldn’t be able to make up the credit this year.

Another 138 students in the Schulich School of Business, who must finish their courses at York before going to study abroad in January, will also be heading back to class this Monday, confirmed Alex Bilyk, York University spokesperson.

None of the CUPE Local 3903 members teach any of the Schulich business programs, Bilyk added.

The remaining 50,000 undergraduates have been shut out of classes since the union went on strike Nov. 6.
