A man has been charged after a hit-and-run left a man with a compound leg fracture last Wednesday night as he crossed a busy street in Beaumond Heights,
The man, 32, was pushing his bicycle across Kipling Avenue approximately 40 metres south of the signalized intersection at Albion Road at 7:20 p.m., Toronto police Sgt. Tim Burrows said.
The driver of a northbound car hit the man, failed to stop, then fled the scene, police said.
The pedestrian was transported to hospital with a compound leg fracture and lacerations to his head.
The incident is a reminder to drivers and pedestrians alike to follow the rules of the road, Burrows said.
"Victims have some share of the blame in these instances," Burrows said. "Why was that person crossing south of the intersection? Even if it isn't a callous hit-and-run, attentive drivers wouldn't expect someone to cross there.
"If everyone drove according to the rules of the road there would be better flow of traffic, and a lot less collisions and injuries."
Security cameras in the area provided police with the make, model, colour of a vehicle, Burrows said.
Travis Kishun, 22, has been charged with fail to stop at accident - bodily harm.
Kishun appeared in court on Friday.
