No jobs are saved if the government pours money into companies that are not going to survive. The loss of jobs is postponed only weeks or a few months.
The Ontario and federal governments should not give away taxpayers' money if the U.S. auto manufacturers aren't able to negotiate a drastic reorganization. There is no possibility any company can continue to compete successfully when the hourly cost of building a car is almost 20 per cent higher that the hourly cost of building a Honda product in North America.
If the unions really care about their workers, they will help them understand they are better to take a smaller amount in salary and benefits than to have no job.
