The holiday season can sometimes be a blur. Between shopping, decorating and countless dinner and cocktail parties, one event can sometimes blend right into the next. To create a truly memorable holiday party, try using a theme. By throwing a bit of creativity into the preparations, your event can be the soiree of the season.

Here are a few ideas to get you started:

• I'll Have a Blue, Blue Christmas Party. Invite your guests to put on their blue suede shoes and white jumpsuits, and celebrate the holiday season Elvis-style. Forget traditional appetizers - serve up fried peanut butter and banana sandwiches, sweet potato pie and barbecued ribs.

• Cheesy Holiday Sweater Party. This party theme begs for the host to provide prizes for the most festive ensemble. The more bedazzling the better, when it comes to holiday attire. Provide your guests with hints as to where to find these holiday gems: thrift shops, online, and, of course, your Great Aunt Fannie's closet.

• Totally Awesome 80s Holiday Dance Party. Set your radio to the all-80s channel, break out your neon, your leg warmers and your Miami Vice suits, and celebrate the season with the best of the Me Decade.

Regardless of the theme, the most important thing to remember when embarking on a big bash: have fun.
