Finch LRT comments could easily be applied to Sheppard line

Re. 'Finch LRT ignores one key detail,' Letter, Aug. 1

Roman Serbinski has said it all with respect to the Finch LRT. His comments apply equally well to the Sheppard LRT.

The buses that serve Sheppard East are 'grocery getters', catering to moms with kids, seniors and Joan and Joe Public. They stop frequently because that is the need.

If you live on a side street north of Sheppard, with the LRT in place, and wanted to go east, it would first be necessary to turn west to one of the 'signalized' intersections there to make a U-turn. The word chaos comes to mind!

No amount of e-mails to those proposing this impossibility seems to have any effect; their answers are simply verbal bromides. Who are the consultants for this inanity? Is there a city in the world where this exact same LRT is operating?

Finally, why the Spadina subway extension? Simply to take some university students to school? Why not an LRT, if it is so cheap and efficient, and use the money saved to extend the Sheppard subway further east?
