Re: 'Gun plan laudable, but more pressing issues face Miller,' Editorial, May 30.

Are you certain that isn't a typo and it should be "laughable"?

I take great umbrage with your statement "(Mayor David) Miller is sincere in his effort to ban handguns. He is correct when he says they are used for only one purpose."

Miller may be sincere, but he and Toronto Community News are both wrong that handguns have only one purpose.

They are designed to be defensive, last-ditch weapons. That's why our police have them; should we disarm them too?

Eighty million law-abiding U.S. gun owners use handguns millions of times a year to protect life and property. Look up the stats. Quit vilifying inanimate objects, it's intellectually weak.

Let's put the focus on illegal drugs and gangs. That's where handguns are being used improperly. Leave legal owners and sport shooters alone.
